MAIN ACHIVEMENTS

1. Training

When it was first established (1969), the Faculty provided undergraduate training in Horticulture. Up to now, in addition to the traditional field of Plant science (Cultivation), the Faculty also opened 10 new majors: Land Management (1996, now under the Faculty of Resource Management); Agriculture Extension (2002), Rural Development (2003), now under the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development; majors in Biotechnology (2006) and Food Technology (2008), now under the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Technology and Horticulture (2006), Production Technology of Flower and Vegetable (2012) and Production technology of medicinal plants (2013), High-tech agriculture (2017) managed by the Faculty Of Agronomy. Since 1993, the Faculty has been training at the master's grade and since 1999 has been training at the doctoral grade in plant science.

Over the past fifty years, the Faculty of Agronomy has trained for the Northern Midlands and Mountains region and for the country 10,000 engineers of all systems, over 1,000 masters and 40 Doctors in Plant science (Cultivation). After graduating, the alumni have always affirmed their professional reputation; many people are scientists, managers, holding high responsibilities in central and local agencies. Statistics up to this point, in terms of State management, there are 01 Secretary of the Party Central Committee, 7 members of the Central Committee, 4 ministers, 14 Provincial Party Secretary, Chairman and Vice President, 200 Secretary, Chairman, Vice Chairman of districts and cities and directors of departments. At the same time, there are hundreds of general directors and directors of corporations, companies and enterprises throughout the country. In the field of training and scientific research, there are 30 professors, associate professors, hundreds of doctors, and directors of research institutes. This resource has greatly contributed to the construction of the country.

In order to improve training quality and meet social needs, the Faculty regularly reviews, adjusts and supplements training programs in the direction of meeting social needs such as reducing theoretical hours in class, increase hours of self-study and practice. Develop a training program framework with clear, specific goals, a reasonable structure, systematically designed, meeting the requirements of knowledge and skills, and flexibly meeting the needs of the market. labor and ensure horizontal and vertical connectivity between industries. At the same time, renovate the content and diversify teaching methods towards developing learners' capacity for self-study, self-research and collective work in order to improve the quality of training in the form of credit training. There are more than 90% of the subjects of the Faculty with available textbooks.

2. Scientific research

The faculty of agronomy is the leading unit of the University in terms of the number of science and technology topics and projects. Right from its inception, in the 1970s and 1980s, the research topics on chilling-tolerant K3 rice by teacher Nong Hong Thai, the topic on Ganga 5 grain, nitrogen fertilization of rice by teacher Nguyen Dau, soyabean topic from Teacher Nguyen Mong has achieved the good results in crop restructuring, productivity improvement and has been widely applied in Bac Thai province and northern mountainous provinces. Following topics on tea trees, fruit trees, soybeans, vegetables, poppies, cotton, rice, flowers were also studied and applied by the faculty and students of the Faculty of Horticulture into production.

Since 2010, the Faculty has implemented 5 protocol projects with the US, Taiwan, Japan and China, 35 state-level projects, 100 ministerial- and provincial-level projects and 90 grass-roots-level projects. department. From the research results, new plant varieties such as KM98-7, KM 419; BK, HL 2004, Agro-forestry pure rice 7, Thai Uu 2 two-line hybrid rice; new fertilizers such as bio-organic and mineral-organic fertilizers NTT, NTR1, NTR2; Technical processes such as propagation and production of fruit trees; produce vegetables and flowers; tea; sustainable cassava cultivation; production and intensive cultivation of root crops; High-tech crop production has been applied to production, contributing to socio-economic development, protecting natural resources and environment, building new countryside in the Northern midland and mountainous region.

3. Technology transfer

The FACULTY OF AGRONOMY is the leading Faculty of the University in terms of transferring technical advances into production. Right from the 80s of the last century, many lecturers of the Faculty have undertaken transfer programs with localities: Mr. Hoang Van Phu with rice in Yen Lang commune, Dai Tu district; Mr. Dang Van Minh with rice plants in Van Thu commune, Binh Gia district, Lang Son province; Mr. Tran Van Dien with soybean plants in Bac Son district, Lang Son province; Mr. Tran Ngoc Ngoan with farming techniques on infertile soil in Tan Quang commune, Dong Hy district; teacher Dao Thanh Van with fruit tree production techniques in Bac Son, Binh Gia, Lang Son province; Mr. Duong Van Son with maize production techniques in Phu Thuong commune (Vo Nhai district, Thai Nguyen province); Mr. Le Tat Khuong with techniques for tea plants in Son Phu commune, Dinh Hoa district....with his works associated with the profession, has formed the nickname: "Van fruit tree"; “Son corn”; "Minh rice"....

In recent years, many transfer tasks of practical significance to production have been carried out with good results, contributing to economic development in the northern midland and mountainous regions. The annual funding from the transfer programs implemented by the Faculty is over 20 billion VND. Typical are some programs: in 2010 to develop a process for 4 ha of tea meeting GlobalGAP standards and 4 ha meeting VietGAP standards; The program cooperates with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation to produce new cassava varieties of nearly 100 thousand hectares, particularly the cassava variety KM94 has been planted on 45,000 hectares; The project "Application of science and technology to produce quality seedlings to serve the development of the 1000 ha persimmon area of ​​Bac Kan province from now to 2015" has produced nearly 10,000 seedlings and transferred them to people for construction. model building; The project "Application of scientific and technical advances in peanut seed production and building a concentrated peanut production area in Chiem Hoa district, Tuyen Quang province" has built 10 hectares of intensive peanut cultivation, 50 hectares of peanut cover, 50 ha of general intensive farming, 01 drying workshop with a capacity of 15 tons/time. The project "Planning for development and trial planting of promising new orange varieties in Ham Yen, Tuyen Quang" has planned over 3000 hectares of land for orange cultivation and transferred many new varieties, new techniques of intensive farming to increase productivity, quality of oranges in Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province.

From 2015 up to now, the Faculty has transferred many projects with high economic efficiency, such as:

 Project: “Building a linkage model for synchronous application of technical and managerial advances in production, processing, preservation and consumption of cassava in order to increase income and contribute to poverty reduction for ethnic minorities. mountainous communes in highland communes Van Yen district (Yen Bai), Quynh Nhai district (Son La), Nguyen Binh district (Cao Bang)" the model has brought about an increase in economic efficiency by nearly 50% compared to the old model. Currently, the model has expanded to thousands of hectares.

The project "Building a model to apply technical advances to produce vegetables in the direction of organic, safe vegetables and value chains associated with building new rural areas in the Northern mountainous region" has brought economic benefits. average growth of 50%.

The project "Building and developing a model of converting and growing crops from inefficient rice-growing land to growing maize and red beans in the Northern Midlands and Mountains" has resulted in an increase in economic efficiency from 25 years. – 30% of the current model extends to thousands of hectares in the northern mountainous provinces.

Project: "Building a model of growing new varieties of galangal and integrated intensive farming in the Northern mountainous region" The results of the project have spread to a large area of ​​1,700 hectares, bringing economic efficiency increased by 30% to people.

The project to develop some medicinal plants in the northern mountainous provinces initially brought high economic efficiency to producers.

4. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

International cooperation in science and technology is one of the priority activities of the University in general and the Faculty Of Agronomy. Highlights are: Cooperation in training with partners from the Netherlands, the United States, Taiwan, Australia…. to improve the capacity of training and scientific research for staff and teachers in the faculty; Cooperate with foreign partners to implement a number of protocol tasks. Through cooperation with foreign partners, many faculty members have been sent to improve their qualifications, many advanced technologies and techniques have been imported, many research results and products have high content. Protocol topic "Research on prevention of orange greening disease and selection of orange varieties capable of preventing greening disease in Ham Yen, Tuyen Quang" in cooperation with China has selected a number of disease-free orange lines and produced S0 and S1 trees were stored in a net house, planted 01 ha of orange and guava to prevent greening disease in Ham Yen.

The protocol project "Research on building a system to calculate the amount of nitrogen fertilizer for maize using image interpretation method" in cooperation with the United States has built the following procedures: Procedures for diagnosing nitrogen content in maize leaf stem at 3 stages 7-9 leaves and 10 days before flowering and 10 days after flowering by image interpretation, Diagnostic procedure for total N absorbed of maize in 3 periods: 7 - 9 leaves and 10 days before flowering and 10 days after flowering, the procedure to calculate the amount of N fertilizer applied to maize at the stage of 7 - 9 leaves and 10 days before flowering is based on the growth - vegetative state of N by image interpretation, the yield forecasting process. Maize yield based on growth status, N nutritional status and digital image interpretation of maize 10 days before flowering and 15 days after flowering serves as the basis for effective N fertilization of maize in Vietnam.

The protocol topic "Research and development of high-yield sweet sorghum for the Northern Midlands and Mountains of Vietnam as raw materials for bioethanol production" in cooperation with Japan has selected some main sweet sorghum varieties. The crop is suitable for the Northern midland and mountainous conditions, with a yield of 80-10 tons/ha/crop, some varieties are capable of spreading the crop with a yield of 120-130 tons/ha/year.

The protocol topic "Cooperation in research and application of high-frequency electric wave technology to eradicate rice weevils in Vietnam" in cooperation with Taiwan has been bringing practical effects to production.
