Mr. Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, was appointed to hold the position of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at a consultation conference on the morning of April 12,
Mr. Chien was former Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs. On March 31, the Politburo appointed Mr. Chien as Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (term of 2019 - 2024); then introduced him to the Vietnam Fatherland Front for consultation and election to hold the position of chairman.
Mr. Chien's predecessor, Politburo member, Tran Thanh Man, was elected as Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.

At the conference, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front also consulted and appointed 9 personnels to join this agency; in which Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai (Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization) and Mr. Phan Xuan Dung (Secretary of the Party Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations) participated presidium.
Mr. Do Van Chien is 59 years old; Agricultural engineer; San Diu ethnic group, born in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province. He was the secretary of the Party Central Committee, term XIII; Member of the Party Central Committee, term X (alternative), XI, XII, XIII; Member of the National Assembly XIII, XIV.
Before, he was the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang Province. From August 2011 to February 2015, he held the position of Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee. From February 2015 to April 2016, he was Deputy Minister, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities. He has held the position of Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs from April 2016 to present.
In January 2021, he was re-elected a member of the Central Committee, then was elected to the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, term XIII, term 2021-2026.
